Proper Care of Neckties
Most of us remove our neckties the first thing when reaching home and putting it somewhere. Sometimes we accidentally sit on top of the tie. This will add a solid crease that will seem to never come out. You might ask if the tie is ruined for good?
It is not difficult to avoid wrinkling a necktie. But if you have already done so, here are some things you can do to restore your necktie to its previous condition.
You need to hang your tie for a long period of time. The pull of gravity can remove any short term wrinkles and return you necktie to is former looks. After wearing your tie, hang it so that the fabric fibers can be straightened before storing. If you want your necktie to recover, wear a different necktie each day of the week. Never wear neckties on consecutive days since this will give it wrinkles that are difficult to remove.
You can roll the tie firmly within a long piece of fabric if you cannot remove wrinkles. You can roll your necktie within a bath towel. The original shape of the tie would be restored if it is kept rolled for a couple of days. Once you have unrolled your necktie, give it a short time to hand so that it can become straight before storing.
Another method of removing wrinkles on a necktie is ironing it, but this will greatly depend on the fabric used. Use the proper heat setting on the iron. If your iron is too hot, the fabric can burn. A clothing steamer can be used to steam out the wrinkles as the tie is hung. Caution should also be used when using steamer. Ironing and steaming a tie at the same time is not good.
For the best clean for your neckties, bring it to a dry cleaner for cleaning. Don’t wash you tie in the laundry id you don’t want to create wrinkles and ruin the shape of your tie and permanently damage the colors.
A wrinkle free and brand new look to your tie can be achieved by storing your ties properly. Many people store their ties by hanging them but this is not the best way to store one. The silk fabric can stretch if it is left hanging over a long period of time. The tie body will have waves which distorts its shape. If you want to store your ties properly, then loosely roll them from the narrow end to the wide end, lay it on its side, and put them in a separate drawer with other ties. Your ties can warp of wrinkle if there is pressure or crowding in the drawer.
