Motherhood guides with Marissa Anastasi: You can have everything but not all at once. For the next few years while I have little children I need to remind myself that I can’t do everything I once did at work (travel, long hours and all the exciting projects). Again, this will change and it won’t be long before I can say, ‘yes’ to more at work as I’m needed less at home. Also having a great partner who knows that my career is important to me and will give me extra support at home when I do want to give a bit more at work.
Trust Yourself. “Everyone you know will have advice and opinions about how you are raising your baby… However, you are the only real expert on your baby and what he or she may need,” says Crowley. “So when you are feeling like you want to ask an expert about something, first get quiet and in touch with your own sense of what might be going on with your little one and how you could best meet that need,” she advises. Take a Lot of Pictures. “You will never regret having too many pictures of your kids,” according to Kelly and Perren. “As your baby grows, you’ll stumble upon pictures of them (and you) and they will make your day. We’ve found that looking back on them as babies also helps to put your child’s age and stage into perspective when you are going through some rough patches. These pictures will become your most valued possessions,” they note.
Spend time with them – on their terms. Spend time with your child, but not on your terms, on theirs. If they like concerts, go with them. Have a family movie night and let your children choose the movies that you watch. You can have one night where a child chooses the movie and another night where an adult chooses the movie. Or, each family can take a turn to choose. The important thing is to meet them on their level, on their terms. This will show that you are taking an interest in them, their lives and their world. And that will mean the world to them. Explore a few extra info at Motherhood blog.
I remember hearing a person with their fumbly toddler, who was wandering – trying to explore and was constantly being told ‘no,’ ‘not in there,’ ‘no don’t touch that,’ and ‘no stop that.’ It was then I knew I would dread being that parent. I treat my little boy with the respect and manners to which I expect him to treat me, and others. Of course daily he tests my limits, but I’m always looking for a new way to suppress the “no” Mom that sometimes feels she could take over at any moment.
My blog is really about my passions in life and my struggles and it’s probably the same for many people. I feel like I could share a lot of experiences, good and bad and blogging also gives me a platform to share moments in our ever-changing life from babies, young kids to teenagers. There’s a mixture of topics, not just motherhood but lifestyle, house design, fashion, travel. I’m passionate about supporting small businesses, especially local ones and those that are run by mums like myself, as I know first-hand how difficult this is and how much the small shops need local support to survive. If YOU have a small business and would like to collaborate, please contact me…. ALL FOR SMALL!! Read extra details on marissaanastasi.com.
