Excellent matress reviews recommendations today? Though technically classified as a foam mattress, the top layer of the Purple Mattress is quite different from memory foam. Dubbed the Purple Grid, this 2-inch layer of hyper-elastic polymer has large open cells like an egg crate and has a squishy, gel-like feel. The design of this grid lets lots of air flow through the mattress to minimize heat buildup, though professional testers are mixed on how cool the Purple stays at night. The Purple Mattress provides pressure relief like a foam mattress but doesn’t let you sink in quite like you will with memory foam. That’s good news for combination sleepers who like to change position at night without feeling stuck in the mattress. The Purple bed does a decent job of reducing motion transfer, so you shouldn’t feel too much jostling from a restless bedmate.
It comes at a cost, but our reviewer has slept better than ever since having the Simba Hybrid Luxe. With barely any motion transfer and amazing edge-to-edge support, sharing a bed is never a problem. To add to this, the mattress has several layers that aid cooling among its 10 (yes 10) layers. There is an open cell casing wrapping a moisture wicking bamboo wool layer and a bamboo sleep surface that can be removed for washing. Overheating is less of a problem and only on the hottest nights does our reviewer find herself kicking off the covers. Paired with Simba’s Hybrid duvet temperature regulation is much easier. It also has three layers of springs in total. Two rows of 25mm Aerocoil springs sit together, then there are larger 40mm carbon steel springs further down the mattress. What this results in is not only supreme support, but really good weight distribution and minimal motion transfer – a must if your bed fellow is a fidget. Finally, we must mention Simba’s efforts towards making the most sustainable mattress they can. Their foam is made from recycled materials and fast-growing bamboo has been used in place of sheep’s wool to make this mattress pretty hot on eco credentials. The only drawback is the cost as starting at over £750 for a single, this may be out of the price range of many. If you can afford it, it is a great investment in amazing sleep.
We were also impressed by how much we felt like we were sleeping in a bubble of bliss on this mattress. As we have already mentioned, the isolation was excellent, but we were also impressed with how well it regulated our temperatures. With other mattresses, our co-tester was liable to disagree with us about warmth, but on the Emma premium, we were both kept at a perfect temperature for us. This is thanks to the two layers of memory foam that are specifically designed to help airflow. The Emma premium gets two thumbs up from us.
Pocket sprung is generally the best type of spring mattress, as the springs move individually from one another, giving better support. Memory foam – these mattresses have become very popular, as many people like sinking into a bed and having the pressure relieved from their joints. They feel very luxurious. Older-style memory foam mattresses had a reputation for making people overheat, as they would radiate heat back up into the body, but new-style memory foam has moved on from this, and it shouldn’t be an issue. The soft outer cover provided a lot of give but the springs beneath provided a sleep experience that was both cushioning and supportive for the back and shoulders. The Simba sleep app, which you can download to your smartphone is a nice accompaniment. It’s a tracker that helps you discover your sleep style – our testers were Night Owl and Sleep Master since you ask – and offers tips to improve your night, tailored to the way you slumber. For our restless ‘Night Owl’ sleeper, the Pro felt a little warmer than some other hybrids but our ‘Sleep Master’ was out like a light and stayed that way until morning. You can take up to 200 nights to decide if you like it, there’s a 0% finance option and a 10-year guarantee.
