Buy high quality surveillance cameras online: Clear night vision is one of the most important features for outdoor security cameras. To get the best and brightest night view, consider a camera with infrared (IR) technology to sending bright light through wavelengths. The number of infrared LEDs used in a camera determines how far your outdoor security camera will be able to clearly show what’s outside your home. Look for surveillance cameras that have at least 100 feet or better of night vision. Many models also have a built-in IR cut-switch that automatically enables and disables the infrared technology depending on the lighting conditions.

If you are looking to buy a security camera, keep a few things in mind. Taking measures to secure your home or small business is supposed to bring you peace of mind. Don’t let it make you paranoid, as has been the case for some users. Making an effort to keep your home or business secure is worthwhile, but don’t use it as yet another reason to be addicted to constantly checking your phone. We recommend that before you set up your new devices, you make “sure all ground level doors and windows are secured with entry sensors. Ideally, the security system has cellular backup so it’ll work even during a power outage,” he says. “And with mobile applications, you’ll be alerted if someone opens or closes your doors. Those are the most important aspects of a security system, in my opinion. The rest, like security cameras, are definitely useful but not strictly necessary.”

The Wyze Cam V2 is a terrific security camera and a phenomenal value. It receives an Excellent rating for video quality and is easier to use than the other cameras on this list. It also does well in our privacy and security tests. The camera features a rolling 14 days of free storage for motion-trigged video clips, person detection, voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, and the ability to store footage locally on an SD card. Unlike the other cameras on this list, Wyze does not offer paid subscription plans for additional cloud storage. But the company does offer a Complete Motion Capture service that continuously records for as long as motion is detected. Without the service or an SD card for local storage, the camera stops recording after 12 seconds. See even more information at Wireless surveillance products.

Any outdoor camera worth its salt must be able to withstand exposure to the elements and should carry an IP (Ingress Protection) rating. IP ratings contain two digits that tell you just how well the camera will hold up under most weather conditions. The first digit following the IP prefix tells you how resistant the camera is to the ingress of solid objects such as wind-blown dust and ranges from 0 (no protection) to 6 (total protection against dust and dirt). The second number tells you how resistant the camera is to moisture and ranges from 0 (no protection) to 9 (protected against close range, high pressure spray downs from all angles). Most outdoor security cameras have an IP66 rating, which means they offer complete protection from dust ingress and can handle water jets from any direction, but shouldn’t be immersed in water. They’re typically safe from rain, snow, heat, and cold.

If you are not familiar with water resistance ratings, IP66 means that the cameras are protected against streams of water falling on them. However, it does not guarantee protection for water immersion. This means that while your cameras are protected from rain, they are not protected under flood waters. IR-cut for day and night means that infrared capabilities allow the camera to detect images clearer in any light level. The other features in the list are designed to provide you with a higher level of convenience. Since we know that many of our customers are budget shoppers, we know that plug-and-play setup and wireless transmission eliminate the need to pay for a complicated installation.
